Brief History of the Institute

"And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach other also" II Timothy 2:2.

This Scripture stands to be the base of the base of the vision given by the Lord to the Mount Zion Faith Ministries in establishing the Mount Zion Institute of Christian Drama.

The Mount Zion Institute of Christian Drama is the academic arm of the Mount Zion Faith Ministries Int’l. It is established for the training of those who have visions for Christian drama and film production ministries.


The MZI began in 1991 with 12-Weekend Courses which was later increased to a 15-Weekend courses. However, later, Ordinary Certificate Programmes (OCP) began to run for one-full week. And further increase in course content led to the introduction of Advanced Certificate Programme (ACP) in Christian Drama Arts which is an additional one-full week.

In 1997, Leadership Diploma Course -LDC (Lower Level) was introduced which was more intensive and interactive in nature. The following year, Upper Level of the LDC was brought in. However, this course did not go far, when we had to concentrate more on the OCP-ACP.

Recently, in June 2007, the MZI Refreshers’ Course was brought in. The beautiful concept of the Refreshers’ Course is that: it is a way of refreshing the past students of the Institute; no one ever graduates from the Refreshers’ Course, because past students come to learn from each other from time to time.

So many churches have sent drama group leaders and members to the MZI; many of the graduates of the MZI have presently become Church drama group leaders, Christian film producers and directors. Many of the gospel movies being released into the markets today have the faces of many of the graduates of the MZI.


Talking about the venue of this Institution, the Institute took off on July 5th 1991 at the then Mount Zion Faith Ministries Int'l secretariat, Aserifa-Ola Layout, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Later on,  various venues were used for the Courses until November 2002, when the Institute moved to its permanent site at Habitation of Faith (The Mount Zion Training and Retreat Centre), located at Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.

SUMMARY OF COURSES OFFERED AT THE MOUNT ZION INSTITUTE

1. Basic Certificate Course in Church Drama Evangelism:-.

This is a specialised course for drama group members and leaders in Churches, Fellowships and Ministries. The course runs for only one week and it is intensive. Students of this course are taught methods of using drama evangelism to support the church pastor and be a blessing to the congregation and the Church or Fellowship or Ministries. Churches do sponsor members of their drama groups to this course.

2. Advance Certificate Course in Church Drama Evangelism:-.

This is the continuation of the Basic certificate course in church Drama Evangelism. Therefore, only the graduates of the Basic certificate course in church Drama Evangelism are eligible to enroll for this course.

It runs for only one Week. One can however run both the Basic and Advanced Certificate Courses in church Drama Evangelism at a Stretch for two weeks.

3. General Certificate Course in Drama Evangelism:-

This course is a general study in Christian Drama Arts touching several areas of Christian Drama especially for people intending to establish independent drama groups or ministries. This course initially was called Ordinary Crash Programme, before it was later changed to General Certificate Course in Drama Evangelism. It is for Drama Groups and Ministries leaders and it runs for only one week.

4. Advanced Certificate Course in Drama Evangelism:-

This is the continuation of the General Certificate Course. Therefore, only the graduates of the General Certificate Course are eligible for this course. It also runs for one week.

5. Combined Certificate Course in Christian Drama Arts:-

This course is for those who wish to attend both the General and Advanced Courses at a stretch. It therefore runs for two weeks.

THE FOLLOWING COURSES HAVE HOWEVER BEEN SUSPENDED FOR A WHILE

1.Basic Certificate Course in Missions Drama Evangelism:-

This is a specialised course for Missionaries and Mission Agencies intending to learn the arts of using drama as an evangelistic tool on Mission field. The course runs for one week.

2. Leadership Diploma Course in Christian Drama Arts (LDC) (Lower Level):-

This is an intensive one-week course for Drama Leaders who had passed through Advance Certificate or Combined Certificate Course and has had some field experience after their Advance or Combined Certificate Course Programme in MZI.

3. Leadership Diploma Course in Christian Drama Arts (LDC) (Upper Level)-:

This is the continuation of the LDC Lower level. So, only the graduates of LDC Lower level are eligible to attend the course. This also runs for only one-week.

METHOD OF ENROLMENT FOR ANY MZI COURSES

Forms are available at the school permanent site but applicants are allowed to obtain their forms on the first day of the course for convenience sake. They are therefore advised to bring along with them three recent passport-sized photographs for registration processes, together with their tuition fees.
